When Sen. Toomey discovered that similar waivers were being issued to 60 foreign ships to participate in the America’s Cup race, he threatened to put a hold on the America’s Cup Act of 2011 in the Senate if similar waivers were not granted to the Marcus Hook tankers as well. U.S. Representative Pat Meehan similarly championed the issue in the House.

This House and Senate-passed America’s Cup Act contains the waivers needed to get the Marcus Hook project off the ground, and President Obama signed it into law Nov. 29.
